After several such rude awakenings, I finally decided to invest in an RFID tag &#8211; and voila, my problem was solved! Now it seems, I am not alone in my thinking. Joined by a constantly increasing number of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BIM construction services, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">using RFID tags for material management, let\u2019s take a look at the benefits of RFID in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BIM implementation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is RFID?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a method of communication using radio frequencies, that comprises of two parts &#8211; an RFID tag and a reader.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tags<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tag stores data and allow tracking of the device it is placed, regardless of whether it has access to the internet. There are two types of RFID tags.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Active &#8211; These tags have an internal power source, their data can be re-written and they are the more expensive form of tags in the market today.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Passive &#8211; Passive tags only become active in proximity to the reader. Their data is permanent, i.e. it cannot be re-written.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Readers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Readers are used to tracking these radio frequency emitting tags. Their functionality is generally limited by proximity, with the exception of active tags.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>RFID for BIM construction services<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tracking capabilities are just the tip of the iceberg for RFID.
